Overview
“miss u ii (nriri)” stands as the fifth track on 9, the highly anticipated sophomore album from Nigerian Afro-R&B and Afro-fusion rising star FOLA. Building on the momentum of his breakout releases and high-profile collaborations (including his appearance on BNXN’s Still In Charge EP), the song marks a crucial emotional anchor point within the album’s tracklist.
Musical Style & Themes
True to FOLA’s signature sound, “miss u ii (nriri)” blends intimate R&B melodies with rich African percussion and subtle alté influences. The title pairs an expressive declaration of longing with the Igbo phrase “nriri” (evoking depth, sweetness, or intense craving), setting the stage for a deeply atmospheric track.
Lyrically, the song explores themes of nostalgia, romantic yearning, and the complex emotions that accompany distance and growth. FOLA’s soulful delivery and smooth vocal layering take center stage over a stripped-back, rhythm-driven production.
Album Context
As the fifth track on 9, “miss u ii (nriri)” showcases FOLA’s evolving songwriting maturity and helps bridge the sonic narrative of his sophomore era. It reinforces his position as one of the key voices defining the new wave of soulful Afro-fusion.
