Following the massive success of his debut project Catharsis, Nigerian singer-songwriter FOLA returned with his highly anticipated sophomore album, 9. Named after football’s traditional number-nine position—the star striker designated to score goals—FOLA frames himself as the go-to artist when Afrobeats needs a hit.
Across 14 cohesive tracks, the album blends infectious melodic Afropop, R&B rhythms, and street anthems. Here are the top trending songs dominating playlists and driving streaming traffic from the project.
Top Trending Songs from FOLA’s ‘9’ Album
1. “2am In Toronto” (feat. Davido)
One of the most streamed early highlights on the album, “2am In Toronto” features global Afrobeats icon Davido. The track combines late-night reflective lyrics with smooth, atmospheric production, creating an immediate crossover hit that connects Nigerian audiences with the diaspora listener base.
2. “treat u right” (feat. Ayra Starr)
Serving as one of the lead promotional singles ahead of the album drop, “treat u right” pairs FOLA’s soulful vocals with Grammy-nominated star Ayra Starr. The track explores romantic devotion through mid-tempo Afrobeats grooves, quickly turning it into an audio staple across radio stations and social media edits.
3. “WAF”
Long before the album arrived, “WAF” established a dedicated online following when an early unreleased version circulated on TikTok. The final studio version delivers high-energy rhythms that continue to make it one of the top solo breakout tracks on the album.
4. “it’s over” (feat. Bella Shmurda & Zlatan)
Serving as the album’s explosive outro, “it’s over” brings together Dangbana Republik head Bella Shmurda and street-hop icon Zlatan. The song serves as a victory lap, closing out the project with high-energy street cadence and celebratory lyrics.
5. “My Type” (feat. BNXN)
Partnering with melodic hitmaker BNXN (formerly Buju), “My Type” stands out for its vocal chemistry and infectious hook. The track leans heavily into smooth Afro-R&B textures, focusing on effortless romance and lifestyle commentary.
6. “Crime”
For lovers of classic Afrobeats, “Crime” interpolates and pays tribute to 2Baba’s legendary 2006 classic “If Love Is A Crime”. FOLA’s modern reinterpretation bridges generational Afrobeats sounds, earning praise from nostalgic fans and new listeners alike.
